October 26th: EDUCAUSE Communications Infrastructure and Applications (CIA) Workshop Live (Join Us Via Zoom)

Vice President Cathy Bates and Dan Harder, Vice Chancellor of ITS and Chief Information Officer at University of Tennessee Health Science Center will discuss The Toppling Tower of Technology Deferred Maintenance. Explore the evolving risks in aging technology infrastructure and learn strategies for managing the risk, addressing the technology lifecycle in innovative ways, and moving forward as an institution to avoid future risk.

October 27th: EDUCAUSE Break Out Session
Vice President Cathy Bates and Associate Vice President Joanna Grama will join panelists Augie Freda, Data Steward at the University of Notre Dame and Rachel Serrano, Director of BI and Data Warehousing at UNC Chapel Hill with their Simulive presentation, Spinach or Kryptonite? Leveraging Data Governance to Improve Analytics. They will explore their data governance journeys, their pain points and celebrations, and how they have leveraged data governance practices to create a campus culture that embraces analytics.

Associate Vice President Joanna Grama and California State University System Chief Information Security Officer Ed Hudson have an on-demand presentation, Promoting Information Security Policy Piety, which showcases how the CSU System deconstructed old information security policies, implemented a new policy framework, and adopted a life-cycle management approach to create information security policies that have system-wide devotees.
Associate Vice President, Jon Young, joined by panelists Jim Monek (Lehigh University), Mike Storer (Rutgers University), and Scott Himes (Biola University), have an on-demand session: IT and Facilities Engagement Strategies. Vantage’s Director of New & Emerging Technologies, Michael Dannenberg, is leading a session at LearningSCAPES 2020, a national conference focused on innovations in K-12 education at the intersection of learning and place. His topic, Planning for the Future of Educational Technology, will focus on the significance and use of technology visioning, stakeholder engagement, and pilot programs as means of delivering on the demands of education and facilities masterplans. Co-presenters at the session include Devan Mitchell, Director of Education Design at CannonDesign, and Carey Upton, Chief Operations Officer of Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.

Jon Young will be presenting on the long-term impact of the pandemic on communications technologies in higher-ed.  Jon will discuss the challenges brought by the COVID-19 crisis and how to leverage those into opportunities.

Matt Morton will be discussing the increasing vulnerability of Industrial Control Systems. Attendees will learn best practices of the ICS security and IT security continuum as well as actionable knowledge on how to facilitate the conversation as to how OT/BAM security and IT security must work together to align risk with cost in most environments.
