IT Master Plan

SUMMARY

As the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, Portland Community College (PCC) serves nearly 73,000 full-time and part-time students on four comprehensive campuses, 8 centers and dozens of independent centers throughout the Portland area. The college was founded in 1961 as an adult education program.

In 2015, PCC developed its first-ever Strategic Plan. One of the recommendations from their accreditation assessment later that year was to “complete the process necessary to produce a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan.”

SRG Partnership was hired to lead the college-wide Facilities Master Plan for PCC and Vantage was selected to conduct a comprehensive inventory and analysis of the college’s technology infrastructure to support the Master Plan.

Our work included a district-wide assessment of current and future state architecture and focused on:

  • Wired and wireless network
  • Fiber and copper cable plant
  • Technology spaces including telecom rooms, building distribution frames and data centers
  • Infrastructure support for video surveillance and public safety systems
  • Information Security
  • Impact of cloud services
  • Business continuity and disaster recovery planning
  • Classroom technology

Our deliverables included:

  • Documentation and assessment of existing systems, current conditions and areas of deferred maintenance
  • Prioritized list of recommendations including additions, upgrades or replacements to IT facilities and infrastructure
  • List of high-level discrete projects to address the recommendations including priorities and budgets
