Physical Security Engineer / Consultant

Vantage Technology Consulting Group is seeking a consultant with hands-on expertise in the conceptualization, design, and implementation of electronic security systems and security infrastructure. Whether your background is in AEC consulting, systems integration, corporate security, or a related field, if you know how to design physical security systems and work well with clients and project teams, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for an applicant who has solid experience and a proven skill set in the following:

  • Security Systems (SEC): Physical security technologies such as video surveillance (CCTV), access control, intrusion detection, and security operations center integration.
  • Structured Cabling Solutions: Design of horizontal and backbone cabling systems for voice, data, and network services.
  • Information Technology (IT): Technology room, risers, wired and wireless infrastructure, and unified communication systems
  • Audio Visual (AV): Integrated systems for presentation, conferencing, digital signage, sound reinforcement, and classroom, meeting space, and theater AV technology
  • Healthcare systems: Low-voltage systems specific to healthcare environments, including nurse call, real time location systems (RTLS), telemetry, and clinical communication infrastructure.

About the Role

  • Position Title: Consultant
  • Location: Remote. Southern California candidates preferred. All candidates must be willing and able to travel to site visits across the country.
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Experience Level: Mid-level (5+ years)
  • Salary: $84,000-$105,000, commensurate with experience; yearly bonus pay may be offered based on firm and individual performance
  • Education Level: Associate’s or Bachelor’s (Preferred)
  • Schedule: Flexible hours, remote-first workplace, expectation of 40 hours per week
  • Travel: Occasional travel to project or client sites

What You Will Do (Responsibilities)

As a consultant at Vantage, you’ll play a key role in something bigger than building design— You’ll help deliver people-focused technology solutions that change lives. Working primarily in healthcare and higher education industries, your designs will protect patients receiving care, students pursuing their education, and the communities that depend on these institutions.

Under the direction of a project leader, and working side-by-side with our project managers, architects, and client stakeholders, you will:

Project Delivery

  • Work within a project team to understand client needs and goals, and build familiarity with each client’s Basis of Design standards, scope, budget, and schedule for assigned tasks.
  • Design security systems for healthcare, higher education, corporate, and other market sectors
  • Work with our production team to create construction packages and/or provide Bluebeam markups.
  • Work with the other designers and subject matter experts within the firm to coordinate work and standards as required for each project.
  • Assist with writing specifications and technology design narratives for the trade(s) you are designing.
  • Attend meetings with clients and architects to discuss project needs, timelines, and technical specifications
  • Participate in virtual coordination meetings with construction teams
  • Perform site walks to review low voltage installations
  • Interpret previous Vantage design work and gain a working understanding of each project’s requirements.
  • Participate in the QA/QC process for your work and the work of team members.
  • As part of a project team, answer and review construction submittals and RFIs (requests for information) from general contractors, and other entities.

Practice and Business Development

  • Begin building relationships with clients, architects, and industry peers through project work and firm-sponsored events
  • Participate in industry conferences and organizations, with the goal of growing your professional network and market awareness
  • Contribute to client satisfaction and retention on active projects, recognizing that strong project delivery is the foundation of repeat work and referrals
  • Support proposal development for pursuits, including contributing to scopes of work and fee structures under senior staff guidance

People and Team Development

  • Seek out mentorship from senior staff and begin informally supporting the development of more junior team members
  • Actively contribute to a culture of quality, curiosity, and continuous improvement within the Vantage team
  • Maintain relevant industry certifications and pursue new ones that align with your growing area of focus

What You Bring to Vantage

We’re looking for someone who combines technical skill with curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence. The ideal candidate is experienced, self-motivated, and thrives in a remote work environment. Here’s what you’ll need to succeed in this role:

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of electronic security system and infrastructure design experience in healthcare, higher education, commercial, or related project types.
  • Knowledge of physical security technologies, design standards, codes, and best practices, regardless of whether your background is in AEC consulting, systems integration, or corporate security.
  • Understanding of design and milestone delivery phases in the production of construction documents and specifications.
  • Familiarity with major security system manufacturers’ product lines and industry-preferred solutions.
  • Ability to perform and document site surveys and construction observations.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and a drive for quality.
  • Comfortable working in a remote team environment and managing your own workload.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and time management skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow, especially in fast-moving tech and engineering fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Southern California candidates are strongly preferred. Our presence and client relationships in the region are active and growing.
  • PSP, CPTED, or equivalent licenses and qualifications. We also offer the opportunity for qualified candidates to attain these certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Solid IT, network, and structured cabling design experience.
