Vantage’s approach to technology planning
helps define vision, formulate effective deployment strategies,
and ensure wise investment decisions.
The University of New Mexico occupies 600 acres
and over 200 buildings in the heart of Albuquerque with 24,700 students
attending main campus and another 7,000 attending branch campuses
and education centers. The University comprises the Academic Campus,
Health Sciences Campus, University Hospital, a Business Park that
acts as a business incubator and branch campuses in Gallup, Los
Alamos, Taos and Valencia County.
The information technology infrastructure plan
both responded and contributed to the University’s Strategic Plan
and the Long Term Campus Development plan.
Vantage was appointed to develop an Information
Technology Infrastructure Master Plan to contribute to the Long
Term Campus Development Plan. The results of the assignment comprised:
- An assessment of the role of technology in the future of teaching
and learning at UNM and user preferred deployment strategies,
including user group outreach sessions and a survey of peer institutions.
- An assessment of system reliability and a user poll of perceived
impact on business continuity, used to develop a plan to enhance
robustness
- A review of the University’s existing technology infrastructure,
including equipment rooms, manholes, duct banks, cabling, power,
air conditioning and building entrance facilities
- Development of campus infrastructure standards
- Identification of a series of upgrades and new infrastructure
construction projects with a total value of $39.7million, including
cost estimates scheduling and implantation phasing and dependencies.
