Wesleyan University
Vantage works closely with client technology
organizations to create cost effective solutions that best
serve the institution and its academic and administrative
needs.
Located in Middletown, Connecticut, Wesleyan
University is a four-year, private institution, founded in 1831.
It serves 2,700 full-time undergraduate and 190 graduate students
on its 290-acre, 60 building campus.
Telephone services at Wesleyan are provided
by a University owned, 4,500 line PBX along with 2,000 lines of
Centrex service provided by the local exchange carrier. All systems
and user services (including University-owed and maintained cable
plant and pathway) are managed by University staff in conjunction
with outside maintenance and vendor staff. Organizationally, telephone
services are part of the University’s Information Technology Department.
Vantage was selected to perform a comprehensive
assessment of the University’s telephone systems and services, including
the appropriateness of current technology, the financial performance
of the systems and services, and the approach to system management.
In particular, the University wished to ensure
that the services were being provided efficiently and in a cost
effective manner, and that, in the longer term, the University was
well positioned to take advantage of technological change.
The final report, presented to the Vice President
for Information Technology, the Vice President for Finance, the
Director of Auxiliary Services, and Director of Technology Support
Services provided recommendations in regard to the efficiency, cost
effectiveness, management, and possible enhancements to telephone
services at Wesleyan.
